enison Security and Granville Police Department: What's the Difference?

Denison Security

- handles all misdemeanors on campus



- is commissioned as a police agency with the state of Ohio, which means they are able to access criminal information from state databases



- is required by state law to report any felony of which they are aware to the Granville Police Department



- is required to report all cases of sexual harassment to the Granville Police Department, but the police do not have to investigate if the victim would prefer that they do not



- updates the campus climate Web site so students can stay informed about criminal activity on campus



- has a sworn police officer on staff and can make arrests if need be

Granville Police Department

- handles all misdemeanors in Granville



- handles all felonies on- or off-campus



- handles certain misdemeanors that Denison Security does not cover, including driving under the influence, death threats and motor vehicle accidents that involve injuries



- is required to inform Denison Security when they are on campus



- is allowed to continue a pursuit on campus if they are following someone who enters campus



- is allowed to pursue or investigate for misdemeanors or felonies if they witness criminal activity while on campus for a valid reason



- is allowed to investigate any crime that a student chooses to report to the Granville Police Department, even if it has already been addressed by Campus Security
