Sounding off on local and national sports headlines

Abstract:
Sportscenter's opening jingle sounded a lot different to me the other morning for some reason. It couldn't have been anchor Stuart Scott's "boo-yah." It wasn't the newest Twitter update about Tiger's trip back home. Watching the normal dazzling dunks, a super serving of slap-shots, and the highlights of the "Top Ten Plays" wasn't it either....

Well said Christian. It truly is a sad state of affairs when the millionaires and the billionaires can't figure out a way to make things work so that the "regular Joe" like me is able to afford decent tickets to a game and a hot dog for my kid. We line up to see the stars we wish we could play like compete on the ultimate fields of play -- and unfortunately many of the stars we admire and encourage young kids to look up to for inspiration and motivation just let them down. This isn't a new revelation; but it is very real and a shame indeed. It is always refreshing to see so many Olympians compete for their Country with pride and compassion. Professional salaries have gotten so far out of wack we don't even know what to feel is reasonable and what isn't anymore. It's laughable and completely perplexing to even attempt to imagine demanding these kinds of salaries for ANYTHING!

AS with much of life, pro athletes fail to comprehend the opportunity and life style they are lucky enough to "endure" until it is gone. It amazes me to read about fortunes lost, careers wasted, all in a span of the time it takes for the rest of us to reach managment level in the working world. However, the greed, egos and mind frame of entitlement begins long before they reach the NBA, NFL etc., just ask Sebastian Telfair and many AAU basketball players that are catered to as if they were the next basketball legend. Well written article Christian, now get back to work without asking for a raise in compensation.
